Listed among the 24 villages of ठिकाणा आऊ (Thikana Aau) in Patawat community records. Detailed local history — families, temples, landmarks and oral tradition — is still being collected, and family heads and elders are invited to contribute. What is now documented are the archival records for this village, set out further down this page. Note: the community list names both "Kharia" and "Khariya" separately — the second may refer to another village (such as Khariya Kansingh in Ghantiyali tehsil); pending clarification, this page covers Khariya of Aau tehsil.
The published history names Khariya Patawatan as the village of Jagath, son of Rao Pato Ji — and calls it an old village (kadeemi gaon), lying near Ghantiyali. In the Census of Marwar 1941, Khariya is recorded as a Patawat jagir village of 250 rekh, with a population of 590 in 1901 rising to 786 by 1941.
